The bear reportedly chased the jogger up an embankment where she continued to charge him.
“The man picked up large stick and hit the bear on the head and tried to seek protection from the bear behind a tree,” a department spokesperson told PEOPLE.

The man then made his way to a residential area where he climbed on top of a vehicle as the bear attacked him while he was on the car.

Police in Hawaii have arrested and charged a man in connection with an alleged acid attack on a woman in Honolulu on Jan. 23, authorities say.
The victim has been identified as a 25-year-old visiting teacher from China, Danying Zhang, according to theHonolulu Star-Advertiser,Island NewsandHawaii News Now.
She was allegedly attacked while on a walk in the evening outside a mall, the Honolulu Police Department said in astatementlast week.

An Illinois man got the surprise of a lifetime when a broken machine led him to buy a ticket for the wrong lottery game, but he still ended up winning a $9.2 million prize.
“I was picking up groceries at Jewel and on my way out the door, I decided to buy a lottery ticket,” he added.
