Getty Images Synthetic chemicals found on everyday products could be behind an increase inpremature births, a new study suggests. Earlier this week, astudywas published in the journalLancet Planetary Health,which gathered data from the National Institutes of Health’sEnvironmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes(ECHO) program. Looking at data from the program between 1998 and 2022, including gestational age at birth, birth weight, birth length and birth weight for gestational age, the study found an example that nearly 57,000 preterm births occurred in the United States in 2018, potentially due to the chemicals, also known as phthalates.
